Hey there, Readers!
Please give a warm welcome to Greg!
Name: Greg Hill
Blog: Book Haven
Has been blogging since: June 2013
Read/blogs about: Mostly fantasy and YA, mysteries and historical fiction
Describe yourself in five words.
Writer. Reader. Lemon sorbetto fan.
Why did you start a book blog?
I wanted to talk about my favorite books but didn't really have a lot of people to do that with. I saw there was a very active book blog community and it looked like a lot of fun. I noticed there's not a lot of guys blogging about books, not sure why, but I figured why not? And in the short two months I've been doing it, I've discovered books I never would have read otherwise, so I've definitely broadened my horizons. Talking about favorite books with people I would otherwise never meet is just cool. It's really a lot of fun.
What do you when you're not reading or blogging?
Spending time with my wife and kids. I can hang out for hours at Barnes & Noble. We like to go kayaking when we can.
What does your "to be read" pile look like at this moment? (Either take a picture or describe it!)
Well it's not too bad at the moment- I've been pacing myself for summer. :) Here's what I've got.
A Dance with Dragons by George RR Martin
Her Royal Spyness by Rhys Bowen
And Only To Deceive by Tasha Alexander
Things come and go from my TBR list all the time, so that may change.
What have you read recently that you loved?
I really enjoyed Rutherford Park by Elizabeth Cooke. It's got a Downton Abbey vibe but with a unique story. Lots of period detail, well- researched but fast moving and thought- provoking. Great book.
What is your all time favorite quote from a novel?
Ooh, tough one. It changes, but I'll go with this from The Hobbit.
"His house was perfect whether you liked food, or sleep, or work, or story- telling, or singing, or just sitting and thinking best, or a pleasant mixture of them all."
What is an upcoming release that you are most excited about?
I think The Falconer by Elizabeth May might rock. It's got faeries and a little steampunk thing going on in 1840's Edinburgh, and a cool cover to boot. We'll see.
Do you have a favorite bookish memory?
Reading by the lake up north in summertime without a care in the world.
I'm a huge music lover/music snob so I have to ask, what are you currently listening to?
I listen to a bit of everything. I love 80's music and Celtic music, like Clannad. I recently discovered the Watercolors channel on Sirius XM, so I'm a smooth jazz fan now too. Sade, Keiko Matsui, that kinda stuff.
Do you listen to music while you read?
Sometimes! If I do it's usually background music like the stuff listed above.
It's time for a game of this or that!
Science fiction or fantasy? Fantasy all the way.
Sunny or stormy? Sunny!
Typed or hand written? Typed, although a hand written letter is a great thing.
North or South? North since I'm in Michigan!
Television or movies? Movies definitely. I don't watch much TV, especially now that I'm reading more again and blogging.
Thank you so much for participating, Greg!
I have to say, I'm insanely jealous of your TBR. Three books!! I have a pile of 100+ right now. I have absolutely no self control. I've tried to put myself on a book buying ban, but I can never maintain it. What is your secret? Also, I really loved that you chose a quote from The Hobbit. Tolkien is the epitome of fantasy!
